(UW300) the student will study and apply the following topics:
the meaning and practice of coaching
coaching relationships
coaching and the learning process
the GROW technique
coaching and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

applying coaching skills in different settings
systems coaching and professional practice

Module 2
Certificate in Mentoring
(UW400) student will study and apply the following mentoring related topics:
introduction to mentoring
the benefits of mentoring
the tasks of mentoring
the mentoring process
setting SMART goals
the SMILE process
developing mentoring skills
Kolb’s Learning Cycle
mentoring in different types of setting
mentoring issues and accountability
mentoring practice and self-assessment

20 Lessons and 8 tutor marked assignments are supplied in PDF and Word format, supplemented with suggested background reading.
Linkages to other courses
Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring
Course 1400 is non-accredited and therefore although covering similar issues does not have the same academic rigour to the on-going assessment. It may be more suitable for a student who already has a degree.
Accredited or CPD
Each of the two course modules is accredited by the University of the West of Scotland at 20 Scot-Cats (Credit Accumulation Transfer Scheme) points at level 2 (2nd year BA/BSc). These points may be used towards gaining a degree in a similar topic.
